Switching video editors typically takes one afternoon if you do it in order. Export every finished video as an MP4. Keep raw footage in dated folders, because the footage is the asset, not the project file. Write down your recurring style choices (fonts, caption position, music behavior). Then rebuild those in the new tool as saved prompts, presets, or a reference video. Project files rarely transfer between editors, so plan to lose those and keep everything else.
Why
- Project files are proprietary. A CapCut, Premiere, or Descript project doesn't open elsewhere. Exports and raw footage do.
- Your style is a few repeatable decisions. Caption font and position, music level under speech, cut rhythm.
- Your own best video is the best spec for the new editor. Tools that match a reference (Vyra does) can rebuild your look from it.
- Muscle memory is the real switching cost. Shortcuts take weeks to relearn. Description-based editors have less interface to learn.
