an artist's brain never shuts off

pt. 1: Overthinking.

I do that a lot.

This takes the form of procrastination, consumption, and general inaction. For content, it means scrolling for “inspiration” when I’m actually just filling my mind with noise. For art, it means staring at a canvas and contemplating the next decision, instead of putting paint on the surface. Perfectionism too - not shipping or posting until it’s perfect.

I like to over complicate the process. I often feed my mind with assumptions and needless worries - how others will perceive this, will I be judged, do I look cringe??

What I keep reminding myself is this:

• i create for my inner child above all. to feed my soul and to express myself

• no one will remember me anyway - everyone’s too busy thinking about themselves

now another pitfall…

pt. 2: Thinking Too Much (a different form of over-thinking).

To be a creative blurs the line between work and play. You’re constantly working & playing, as in, you’re constantly seeing from the lens of an artist. Each moment is an opportunity to find inspiration, to work the details further.

It’s easy to burn out.

Especially when you love the work so much that you obsess constantly: what’s the next feature, task, idea, video?

I’m trying to find a balance. Still figuring it out, but fixing my sleep schedule is a big goal. As well as moving more, basking in the natural world around me. Learning to be present and at peace.

Just maybe, when my mind is no longer running a race towards a faraway goalpost, it will be clear what comes next.
