How to cross-post to TikTok, Reels, and Shorts without a watermark
Export one clean 9:16 master from your editor and upload it to each app yourself. Never share from one app to another.

Export one clean 9:16 master and upload it to each app yourself. Downloading from TikTok and reposting to Reels leaves a watermark and a squashed file, and Instagram and YouTube both say they push those less. One export, three uploads, a different caption each time.
Why it matters
The same video reaches three audiences for one edit. The watermark is the only thing that breaks it.
The method
- Edit once, export once. 1080x1920, high bitrate, no logos, no in-app text.
- Check the safe zones. Keep captions out of the bottom 20 percent and the right 10 percent.
- Upload in each app. Never the "share to" button.
- Rewrite the caption per app. TikTok short and hooky. Instagram a share prompt. YouTube a searchable title.
- Use each app's own audio. If you used a trending sound, re-add it in the other app instead of baking it in.
- Keep the master. If one version flops, re-cut the first 3 seconds and repost.
Rules of thumb
| Element | Target |
|---|---|
| Master | 1080x1920, MP4 |
| Bottom safe zone | 20% of height |
| Right safe zone | 10% of width |
| Caption height | above 300 px from the bottom on a 1920 px frame |
| Captions rewritten | every time |
Examples
- A 30 second process video. TikTok caption "this felt like gambling." Reels caption "send this to someone who paints." Shorts title "Painting with real magnolia petals." One edit, three audiences.
- The same video shared from TikTok to Reels with the share button arrives with a watermark and about 30% less resolution.
Do it in Vyra
Export this as a clean 9:16 master at 1080x1920, high quality, with no logos or platform overlays. Keep all captions above the bottom 20% and away from the right 10% of the frame.
Give me a second export at 1:1 for the Instagram grid with my face centered, and a 16:9 version for the YouTube channel page with the captions repositioned.
Make a TikTok variant with the text hook "will it crumble?" and a Shorts variant with a first frame of the petal touching paint. Same edit otherwise.
Common mistakes
- Sharing from TikTok to Instagram with the in-app button.
- Captions baked into the bottom of the frame.
- One caption for all three apps.
- Exporting at a low bitrate. Each app compresses it again.
FAQ
Is the watermark penalty real? Instagram and YouTube have both said they reduce reach for visible watermarks from other apps. It also just looks like a repost.
Same day on all three? Fine. Stagger only if you want to compare hooks.
