How to grow on TikTok as a creator in 2026
TikTok grows on watch time from strangers. Post one repeatable format daily with a hook in the first second and no dead air after it.

TikTok shows each post to a small batch of strangers, measures how long they watch, and widens the batch if the numbers hold. So follower count matters less than you'd think. What matters is posting one repeatable format often enough that a stranger's first video from you has a hook in the first second and no dead air after.
Why it matters
A 200 follower account and a 200k account start each post from almost the same place.
The method
- One format, daily, for 30 days. Talking head, process, vlog, or story. One format means one editing pattern you can actually keep up.
- Front-load the hook. First word under half a second, first cut inside 1.5 seconds, text on screen.
- Cut every pause. Dead air is why people swipe mid-video. Pauses over 0.4 seconds, fillers, restarts.
- Under 45 seconds until you have data. Shorter finishes more often.
- Read three numbers. Average watch time, completion, the retention curve.
- Re-cut before you re-shoot. Change the first 3 seconds and repost before making something new.
- Answer comments with videos. One viewer's question becomes the next hook.
